WELDING EDUCATION: “Welder Bob”

A photo taken at a regional training event was the inspiration for our first branded t-shirt – premiered for the holidays. In the original photo, “Bob” is clearly seen on the helmet. Since we couldn’t find Bob to ask permission, we leaned toward forgiveness for a common cause.

The Question was, “Who’s Bob?”

It turned out, “Bob” was among the best we could have chosen to represent our support for Welding Education.

Bob Throndsen – Instructor
Sno-Isle TECH Skills Center

Bob Throndsen leads the Welding and Metal Fabrication program at Sno-Isle TECH., He is a local to the Seattle area and was raised by parents who owned one of those cool old service stations in the Magnolia District of Seattle. He has a background as a mechanic but bitten by the welding bug early on. His love of street rods led him to open his own business of fabricating custom street rod frames and parts in 1981.

Bob has also been a very good and long-time customer in Everett, WA.

COMPENSATION FOR TRADE:

The mission was to find Bob and make sure he received a free t-shirt. We threw in a framed 8 x 10 of the original photo. (It is a stellar welding application shot to the credit of our “resident photographer” Nate Bowman.)

Following is Bob’s thanks to Central Welding Supply shared with Scott Mann at our Everett, WA location.

Good morning Scott,

Please share this message with everyone at Central . . .

I would like to send a BIG thank you for the continued support that Central Welding and its employees give our program and students.

Without your generous donations the program would not run as smoothly.

Scott Mann has done a lot for the program as with everyone at the Everett store.

When it came to our awareness that we are going to have “Shadow Days” here on our campus ( this is our Covid version of our Open House ) where we will get approx. 40 extra potential students coming in to see what we do here every day for four days , good helmets became an issue.

We require students to supply their own helmets as they take care of them better than any we supply , and any extras that I have are flip down Jacksons.

This is where Scott came to our rescue and along with the great powers that be, at Central Welding , and you have supplied us with ten auto darkening units.

We will be setting up different student led stations around the shop and of course welding will be involved and now the guests will be able to participate nicely.

These helmets will be labeled as “Sno Isle Guest” and kept in their boxes for special occasions , so they stay clean and dust free.

Your continued support is talked about all of the time in my classroom and this is the new up coming work force not only for this area but for the world.

We talk about the importance of “support”m for anything to do with equipment and how you do not get that when you purchase anything on line.

Central Welding is known by every student that pass through our doors and I just want to say thanks again

I am proud to have you all as allies and friends, keep up the great work

Stay safe and healthy,

Bob
